[Review] Kose Sekkisei Sun Protect Essence Gel SPF50+ PA+++

Hello everyone,

I've got about 20+ product reviews that are in my drafts, so I'm going to be trying to publish a new product review every week! Though, now that I'm active on YouTube (check the end of this blog entry for direct links to my social media platforms) I've been trying to make cosmetic product reviews on that platform too, so look into both for more reviews.

Enjoy the product review!

Kose Sekkisei Essence Gel SPF50+ PA+++

Product description: Quickly absorbs into the skin with a pleasant sensation.
  • A lotion-type sunscreen gel with oriental herbal extracts that protect the skin from damage due to UV rays and environmental elements, keeping it beautifully translucent.
  • SPF50+/PA++++, the highest possible ratings in Japan. Offers solid protection from photo-aging caused by UV-A rays (gradually reduce resilience and elasticity) and UV-B rays (burn the skin causing redness and inflammation), and prevents age spots and freckles caused by sun exposure.
  • Contains Smooth Gel that forms a thin veil and holds moisture within the epidermis while keeping the surface silky-smooth.
  • Infused with oriental herbal extracts that preventsdullness and skin troubles caused by dryness, and maintains a supple, translucent complexion.
How to use: Apply evenly over face and body before sun exposure.

Product price: This product comes in two different sizes, I bought the mini which was about $14 USD.

Scent: There's a hint of oriental herbs, though the majority in my opinion is the alcohol that cannot be masked by other fragrance.

Product period use: 3 months - not ongoing (stopped using after testing period)

Personal experience: I purchased the three products shown above when I went to Japan for the first time. At the time, I wanted more than anything to offer more content on my blog for you all. To do this, I had to first do research of some of the "big" brands and the most "popular" (advertised, lol) products in Japan. One brand in particular that I kept running into was this particular one, Kose. I thought from my first impressions that the packaging was quite nice, in my opinion it's quite simplistic and at the same time it embodies a bit of elegance. I was at a massive mall (honestly, I can't remember which one it was), and I was asking the sales clerk about this line. It's meant for whitening/brightening, and at the time I wanted to brighten up my dull skin from some mild acne scarring. I purchased a medium size of the Medicated toner (first product to the left), mini sun essence gel (center), and of course I wanted to also try the essence milk on the right. Unfortunately, it wasn't until later I did more research and discovered that I didn't understand the ingredients in these products. I've seen that this product has been effective for some, while others have felt it wasn't worth the purchase.

The sun essence gel has a watery texture, but it's still a bit thick in consistency, it applies easily (unlike the essence milk) and gives a moisturized appearance. For me, I felt that this was too heavy, thick and it became an oily mess on my skin. Granted, I have oily skin so this is a bit more difficult to review, however it would be more suitable for a normal skin type. I don't think it would be suitable for dry skin, as many claim would be good, as dry skin tends to have a "sensitive" aspect to it too.

I felt it brightened a little bit, but I just didn't enjoy the greasy feeling it gave my face and could not stand the ingredients list. I believe this line has so much potential, but that they should take away the ingredients that don't benefit the skin in any way, shape or form.

If you've been reading my blog entries for a while, I use to always highlight the ingredients that
I was not a fan of in all my product reviews. However, so many brands these days aren't revealing their ingredients list as easy (not on the box, nor online), however for this particular product review I wanted to make it a point since I find it contradicting of the designated product gain/effect.

I know all the ingredients and why I consider those in red troublesome, if you want a full explanation of why I marked it, leave me a comment on and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions/concerns.

[Review] Skinfood Freshmade Lemon Mask

Hello everyone,

To be honest I was working on this product review in Seoul and I just forgot to publish it, until now. . lol

Skinfood Freshmade Lemon Mask

Product description: A wash-off fruit mask with a moisturizing gel containing lemon extract from North Africa for brightening effect.

6-free formula: Mineral Oil, Silicon Oil, Talc, Sorbic Acid, TEA (Triethanolamine), and Benzyl alcohol.

How to use:

1) After removing make-up and cleansing the face, apply generously around the entire face avoiding the eyes and lips.

2) After 10~15 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water.

Product price: $11.00 USD, at least when I bought it in Japan a while ago.

Scent: Citrus, definitely has a tart scent of lemon that some may or may not like.

Product period use: 1 year on and off - ongoing

Personal experience: I bought this product after discovering a Skinfood on Yelp (Japan) during my first week in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan. I've actually been a long time user of Skinfood products, though I must say just like most brands, it's usually a hit or miss product!

I was so enticed by the concept of this item, since this was the freshmade line and it offered quite a few more options too. At the time, I really wanted just the Pineapple (Peeling mask w/ PHA) as I've never (to do this, actually. .) used a product with PHA in it. Although, at the time, it was completely sold out when I had talked to the employees. It was the best seller of all the available freshmade mask, so I ended up just buying the lemon one on a whim.

I have to say the scent for the majority of the line had a very pleasant scent! This product in particular smells of fresh lemon, though I could see why some wouldn't be a big fan as it's a bit on the overwhelming side.

After cleansing the skin, apply the mask and wait about 10-15 minutes . .

I continued to do this for a few months, three times a week . .

Though I felt there was a fair amount of moisture on my skin afterwards, I didn't notice a brightening effect that was significant. . bummer.

I still have the product to this day, barely any of it has been used and I don't really find much of a use for it. But, along with another product (Missha Milk Pack) similar to this, I've just decided to apply it as a wash-off mask on my body instead of just having it thrown out.

I'm a bit disappointed, but that's fine because there's been quite a few products that have been more on the underwhelming side these days. A part of being a "beauty" blogger is sharing my genuine experience with you all, whether sponsored or not . . I will always stay true to my honesty when it comes to product reviews.

I love innovative products, as well just trying out anything new that catches my eye or is the current "hype" to really debunk if it's effective or not.

That being said, just because I wasn't a fan of this product, doesn't mean Skinfood carries nothing that is effective! Trust me, there are effective products, I've just had my fair share of products from them that are good and bad.

Rate: 2.5/5.

Troiareuke A+ CUSHION REVIEW

To all my blog visitors from around the world, thank you so much for the time you've taken out of your day to visit my blog!

I am very, very grateful as I've said since the start of my blog. . I truly wish that one day blogging could become a full time part of my profession, and if that's too much to ask. . then just a bit more, as my mission statement is to help others and educate the mass for their personal, unique skin care needs.

I AM SO, SO HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT I AM IN SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA FOR VACATION AND HAVE FINALLY GOT A CHANCE TO VISIT TROIAREUKE IN MYEONGDONG!

without further interruptions, let us begin this product review. .

 TROIAREUKE A+ CUSHION

Product description: TROIAREUKE A+Cushion is for Acne (Oily skin too, thank goodness) and Sensitive skin + combination skin.

It covers big pores naturally and gives a lasting, perfect finish for dewy make up appearance! What more than a youthful, dewy and natural based product can you ask for?

After speaking with Troiareuke team, they confirmed product is 99% skin care and only 1% make up?! Madness, buy a few more before I head back to United States next month! Haha.

Price: 38,000 KRW = $33.00 USD

Personal experience: I just have to say. . What do you all think my review of this product will be? Just take a moment and make a guess, as I tell you about my personal experience with this product.

So for those who haven't watched my daily vlogs since I've arrived in South Korea, please click here. After hearing YouTuber's opinions on this brand, I knew one day that I would have to finally try out the brand and decide whether it was just pure hype or real, actual results.

I must say, as someone who has always reviewed products honestly, I was shocked to see so many individuals saying the same answer: the product is spectacular.

Honestly, I was convinced that it was just all for show or even perhaps, it was gifted and so the people reviewing may be a little built (just a tad bit) on the biased side when reviewing this product?

Well, well. . I was wrong, truly and completely wrong.

I've got oily, acne prone and sensitive skin. . I cannot even begin to tell you the journey of trying to combat this skin type. Also, I've had fairly bad acne scars in the past, though compared to many who claim they have cystic acne. . I was very, very fortunate.

Over time I've tried so many products (even some in the ol' days that I didn't review), and I'm only a few years into the cushion world. However, I've tried quite a few since and though some were quite nice, I can't say there was one that was absolutely perfect. .

I bought the A+ Cushion when I visited the office and spoke with the staff in the Myeongdong location, one spoke Chinese and the other spoke Japanese. . I can speak a fair amount of both, but much more Japanese. I cannot speak Korean fluently, and no where near my Japanese speaking, as I've just recently been studying Korean language. I can read it of course, however, I don't understand what I'm reading a majority of the time.

I picked up the Acsen sun essence too (sunscreen) and it was actually quite nice because there is a temporary promotional discount if you buy the both of them!

I applied my basic skin care and gently pressed the puff onto the cushion, immediately noticing it was a "Mochi" style cushion compact. This was my first time trying one of these, and I was quite amazed because the product manages to capture just enough! There's not too much transfer which is perfect because I only wear a light 1 layer, though sometimes 2 on the cheeks on days I want to look "extra" nice.

It was so smooth, like velvet. . It just blended into my skin and I could feel the skin-to-skin coverage. I felt as if I wasn't wearing anything at all, additionally. . I felt it didn't just sit on the skin. . Which I can't say for other cushions at all.

With this in mind, I wore it out with no primer (I don't really use a powder either so that's out the question), and results were phenomenal! I felt that after about 6 hours there began to show a bit of wear, as if the product was very slowly disappearing, however if you use cushions regularly. . You know this is nothing new, it just happens over time.

I went out to noraebang with my friends the other night and decided to wear it, we left at 5:00 am and we stayed in Gireum where our friend let us stay the night. I was very lazy, dehydrated that day quite a bit and didn't wash my face because I was so exhausted and wanted some sleep because my Troipeel appointment was at 13:00 (approximately 8 hours following).

I noticed that when I woke up my skin wasn't breaking out at all, which yes. . I admit, I've been so tired before in the past that I've accidentally slept with my BB cream (from cushion) still on and my breakouts were ghastly! It was absolutely atrocious breakouts and my skin was very clogged. .

But, shockingly . . I didn't have any breakouts at all, in fact my skin seemed to look slightly more improved!

Going forward I wouldn't recommend people to wear it at night, however, if you're quite busy and tired and there are days in which you know that you'll be too tired to remove it. This is the cushion for you, especially if matches your skin care concerns.

I've tried it out only twice! However, once my troipeel period is complete, I will further test the product out. As well, review the other products from the Troiareuke Acsen line, and then I'll either write a blog entry or provide a YouTube video product review. In fact, I may even just do both if the occasion and time permits.

Flawless upper medium coverage, very strong in my opinion though not cakey or greasy at all, it doesn't make my skin oily and gives me a nice, calm. . dewy finish.

Who doesn't want that??

Overall, I have to say. . This is easily my staple cushion, and I'm quite worried about running out of it so I may very well stock up before my return home within the next month.

Product testing period: 1 week - ongoing
please note: i will update this if my opinion on the product changes accordingly and add extra additional information when necessary, however, I'm convinced my opinion of it won't change.

Ingredients: Active ingredients: Titanium Dioxide (Sunscreen), Ethylhexyl Methoycinnate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Zinc Oxide (Sunscreen), Niacinamide, Adenosine.

Texture + Before & After photo:
Before applying Troiareuke A+ cushion, please keep in mind I had just washed my hands so there's no prime or skin care applied on this hand.
After: I mean, I will let the photo do all the talking. . I have nothing to say, whether my hand or my face. . spectacular result. Please note, I will be doing a video on this cushion while applying it on my face, however, because of Troipeel treatment. . I am unable to put anything on my face except a sun essence (sunscreen) for the time being from Troiareuke Acsen line. I wanted the review up because to be completely honest, I haven't been this excited for a particular product review in a long time since the results were promising!
Simplistic packaging, I personally love it though they could do more with it if they wanted to. . I have no doubts, just please this formula is already perfect in my opinion so there is no need to change, haha.
y'all they ain't playing games anymore, she's got a "mochi" style dispenser to preserve the product life and really just maintain it's overall integrity. . I mean, she is stunning. .
Rate: 5/5! Perfect!
updated review - 7/19/17, rate: 4.25

updated reason: so disregard the old text written below: This product is still a truly spectacular cushion, I love the soothing ingredients and this is my go-to when I'm breaking out or my skin is acting unruly. However, I've noticed that that the cushion doesn't last more than about 5-6 hours on a summer day without breaking down, it becomes a bit "powdery" looking, if that makes sense. In my opinion, that's not bad at all, however I cannot say this offers all day flawless performance. One other area of concern is the amount of product inside the cushion, I've used a lot of cushions in my day and they usually last longer than how this is lasting up. I feel like there's a good 2-3 months worth of everyday use, but that's about it. For $30+ USD, it can get pricy for some, and I even think that's a bit much myself. However, overall. . I still believe this is a phenomenal cushion for what it is, it's definitely on the lit of my top 3 cushions.

This might be a first since the start of writing product reviews that I've given a product the highest score possible in a rate, this product in my opinion is perfect! However, please note, every individual has unique skin and what may be best for me might not be for others. In that case I would recommended their H+ cushion if this isn't for you, however, I have not yet tested it out and will update a review for it immediately if I get the opportunity to do so.

note: Troiareuke A+ Acsen cushion for oily + sensitive skin types, minimize appearance of pores and give skin to skin lightness and feeling.

Troiareuke H+ cushion: H+cushion formation helps skin to have light-weight make-up, without causing skin suffocation and dullness during the day. It controls excessive sebum and is an excellent reliever for sensitive skin.

I must try it when the opportunity is given! I'm sure a lot of you will have questions so please feel free to leave a comment below this blog entry.

Please note,  I am currently in the process of the Troipeel treatment that I paid for, so if you would like a review of that. . Please check my YouTube page as I'm currently updating with daily vlogs here in Seoul, South Korea!

Disclaimer: I promise you that my honesty is above all else, these products were paid for with my own money based on recommendations I've seen on YouTube.

However, that being said, Troiareuke was gracious enough to gift me the Acsen Cleanser (unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, I was not able to take this product back to the US because it was in my carry on) to take home. I currently cannot test this product because Troipeeling conditions that need to be met, though please stay tuned because their will be a full review up in the near future!

More than anything, I want to emphasize that my product reviews have always been and always will be completely honest. It is not a matter of whether the product was provided or purchased with my own money, I will always be giving the absolute truth in all matters of what I find myself best at - blogging/product reviews/skin care knowledge and understanding of different skin types.

I will be filming a full review (before and after) of the Troiareuke A+ cushion on my YouTube once the troipeel is done. Please look forward to that!  (I still need to this. . hopefully I will get around to this soon.)

Daily vlogs in Seoul, South Korea are up on my YouTube now! Please click here to visit, as well please make sure to subscribe to my channel for more upcoming content and immediate alerts for when I post new content.

[Review] Kose Sekkisei Medicated Lotion (Toner)

I'm writing this at 1:38 AM since my left leaves much later at 4:10 PM to Shanghai, though I've become very sleepy too. . However, I will at least leave you with one more piece of content for the time being!
Kose - Sekkisei Medicated Lotion (Toner)

Product description: An ultra-hydrating treatment lotion helps eliminate dullness appearance instantly hydrates.

Scent: The scent of this product is long debated, at first to me it had an herbal scent that wasn't all that bad. After using more than half of the bottle, I felt that it had a scent of alcohol instead.

Price: $50.00 - $60.00 USD (approximately, from my purchase date 2016 of August)

Personal Experience: I was very, very hyped up for this product line and the brand! I actually didn't even give myself an option, I HAD TO BUY IT!

I had read such great reviews on the product and even saw a female on YouTube that swore by it (though it appeared as a sponsored video 100%). I still made an effort to pick this product up and even get one of the bigger sizes in order to write this review for you all.

To make things clear, I have combination (more oily, very rarely now there is a bit of dryness)

However, I felt this product is truly marketed towards those with dry skin and post acne marks, excluding acne prone/very oily skin types because of the nature of the product. There's nothing really to kill breakouts, actually.

I used the product immediately for quite a few months, though I noticed immediate brightening from the start of using it. .

I quickly realized, eventually it got to a point where it almost didn't seem hydrating at all. This product managed to dry so quickly on my face, I had to look in the ingredients and low and behold there is alcohol. And at that, a very significant amount which could explain the redness it flared in my nose specifically, and often my cheeks.

I cannot say this product is very hydrating, if anything it's just as hydrating as cleansing with a bar of soap (lol), so that's a no-go for me. This product wasn't extremely harsh, but it wasn't very sensitive skin friendly at all. . And quite honestly, I would fall into that category as well, though my skin isn't extremely sensitive.

The temporary effects went away as I stopped using the product, but I did seem to notice a minimal amount of "whitening" effect stay.

With long term use, I felt this product was just not working for what it was hyped up to be, even on my acne marks though I can say they lightened up a bit.

All in all, it was not very hydrating and definitely didn't work too well with my skin.

Overhyped? Yes. . I've definitely noticed some individuals on YouTube "praising" this product because of a very obvious sponsor/collab opportunity. To be honest, I really don't care for all that and even a false sense of "quick" money. I began this blog to review honestly to the core, whether or not the product is sponsored or not. I am here to educate and give my honest experience on each product, in order to provide vital information for those seeking further details and a "personal experience" review to guide you in your k-beauty shopping/creating your own unique skin care/make up routine.

Overpriced? Of course, one can not even begin to argue that.

What would you want changed about the product: Take out the harmful ingredients, no alcohol! Though, I admit this product (because of that) can dry so quickly.

the other products that I purchased that will be reviewed in due time. .
Kose - Sekkisei Essence Milk SPF 50++
Yes, for the other two I went with travel sizes since it was a lot of product already.
Rate: 2/5, which it pains me to say that because there was a minor brightening effect/results. . However, far from worth the price point.

Final thoughts: I really, really wanted to like this product (spoiler: the entire line) but this is just not cut out to be one many would enjoy using with oily+sensitive prone skin.

[Review] Rohto Melano CC Vitamin White Mist

It's been quite some time since I've published any new entries! Please forgive me, this is truly inexcusable but I've got some time now as I'm waiting to board my plane to Shanghai - > Incheon Airport, Seoul - South Korea.

Without further interruption, let's get into this product review. . !

Rohto Melano CC Vitamin White Mist

Product description: CC Mist to rid of melanin production (prevent + remove dark spots, sun spots, etc)

Scent: To be completely honest, I cannot tell you that I remember the exact scent because I purchased this during my visit to Japan in August 2016. . However, it was a very strong synthetic fragrance that I knew wouldn't work well with my skin.

Personal experience: I'm going to be completely honest, when I first applied it and felt a sting. . I thought, well. . Essentially it's meant to brighten and stop melanin, maybe that's normal as we begin the process of using this regularly?

For example, as I've reviewed The Face Shop - White Seed Vitamin C 10% Ampoule, using it my first time caused a bit of a stinging sensation. However, over a week, I hadn't noticed anymore of the mild stinging that was unbelievably uncomfortable.

I kept trying with this mist and was not happy, I have to admit the mist is a very nice, fine spray. However, even still this did not excuse the performance of this product. .

I can't recall the price of this product, but I believe it was around $9.00 USD, which didn't seem bad at first.

It wasn't until my first use of the product and the feeling on my face, I felt that the product didn't absorb quickly at all . . As if sitting on my face, just the surface not even providing hydration. Immediately I felt discomfort from it, and I can't explain how it felt besides saying it was just an unpleasant feeling.

Similar to putting on a greasy moisturizer, just that exact feeling of not being completely satisfied by a product.

It didn't help that this product didn't seem effective after a month of use, as well every time causing my skin to react and become red.

The redness can only be described as when one uses a product with a high amount of fragrance and alcohol, just that feeling of "why did I just put that on my skin?"

I didn't see any results and tried very hard to review this product properly, considering I had bought two during my impulse buying in Osaka.

I ended using the bottle on my body which didn't sit on the skin well, but didn't irritate the skin from the surface either.

Eventually, I got tired of doing that and just threw it out as the product just wasn't at all what I had hoped.

Product testing period: 1 month

Ingredients: click here to view ingredients of this product. .

The extracts aren't that bad at all, and even the use of witch hazel is reassuring. . Though what's obvious is the use of alcohol. . And my skin + alcohol = bad experience.

Rate: 1/5, sorry.

[Review] Kose Natusavon Apple & Jasmine Washing Foam

These items were both purchased while I was in Japan, which is quite nice because this blog was mainly Korean cosmetics, and I'm always excited to try out new Japanese skin care products.

Kose Natsusavon Apple & Jasmine Washing Foam
Apple & Jasmine (Left), Chamomile & Pear, click here to read this blog entry.
Product description: A botanical apple & jasmine bubble foam cleanser, easily swipes away excess dirt while giving a moisturizing effect to the skin.

How to apply: Apply a generous amount of cleanser onto the hands or cleansing tool, rinse throughly.

Product texture: Foam cleanser, very light and airy.
fun fact: they're labeled as "Washing foam, but they're sure enough cleansing foams lol.
also those are not my hands, someone was kind enough to hold the items for me during these shots.
Apple & Jasmine (Moist, moisturizing effect), Chamomile & Pear (Whitening)
Scent: Smells like a bit of Jasmine, hint of apple too.

Personal experience: I can perfectly recall buying these products back in Japan, I honestly recall buying products on a last minute spring because I wanted to review more products for you all!

I am actually very glad that I did so, as this product has definitely been quite a pleasant surprise, though I didn't doubt it from the beginning for the record.

In fact, I was quite ecstatic at the thought of trying this product, it was so simplistic and the design was just quite right.

Honestly, it reminds me of Ouran High School Host Club aesthetic, lol.

This is a cleansing foam, meaning that it'll skip you the massaging like you would with a traditional cleansing foam. Instead, it'll create the foam version of the cleanser with just a simple pump, I generally put two pumps on one hand spread onto the other. From there, I just press on both sides of my cheeks and spread appropriately.

I generally skip the use of my Clarisonic in conjunction with this product, though technically speaking you can use that as well. I generally stick to using it with cleansing foams or gel cleansers only though, as I'm perhaps just too lazy to use with a bubble foam/cleansing foam/washing foam cleanse.

I love this especially when I'm taking a shower, gives me a simple cleanse without bothering my skin or drying it out. I've also used this cleanser after shaving on several times, and it doesn't feel very harsh even to freshly exposed skin.

I feel this product is really just a simplistic cleanser with a very pleasant scent, I don't have any complaints and I'm fond of the fact that this product is from Kose.

Aside from keeping my face from drying during a cleanse, I don't really seem any long term effects or brightening with this product.

I'm still using it to this day, and actually I picked up a refill of this product when I was in Japan, which fills up about 3/4th of the original product.

Product price: 10.00 USD approximately, converted from original Japanese currency purchase price.

Ingredients: Unfortunately, I couldn't locate the ingredients anywhere, apologies.

Product rating: 3.25/5

Final thoughts: Simplistic and effective in keeping the skin moisturized after a basic cleansing, I have no complaints with this product for what I prefer to use it for.

side note: I just launched [Take me to Tokyo, Japan Pt.1] on my main blog, click below to see all the photos and explore my first time in Japan with me.

How to apply: Apply a generous amount of cleanser onto the hands or cleansing tool, rinse throughly.

Product texture: Foam cleanser, very light and airy.
Apple & Jasmine (Moist, moisturizing effect), Chamomile & Pear (Whitening)
Scent: Mild Chamomile scent, barely any hint of pear smell, in my opinion.

Personal experience: Similar to the Apple & Jasmine version of this product, it actually came as a surprise to me.

I didn't really notice a whitening or brightening effect, not even a mid-brightening effect which was a bit disappointing. I feel there was a very, very slight brightening effect while keeping my skin from being overly dry. Though, this certainly was a miracle product, just sensitive skin friendly and with a very soothing aroma.

Final thoughts: Simplistic and effective in keeping the skin moisturized after a basic cleansing, I have no complaints with this product for what I prefer to use it for.
