The Face Shop Mild Papaya Peeling Review

Hi everyone,

I'm back with another review, specifically on a product that I recently picked up after receiving a mass of positive feedback about.

The Face Shop Mild Papaya Peeling

Product Description: Get clear, flawless looking skin with this mild papaya peel. Gentle on the skin, it efficiently removes impurities and dead skin cells that clog pores.

How to apply the face mask: Apply a generous amount to dry hands after cleansing the skin, 1-3 pumps from the face down to the neck. Massage for 30 seconds - 1 minute and continue to wash off the dead skin cells.

Personal experience with product: For those who may not already know, I am recently married. . To this stunning Mild Papaya Peel, honestly. I am quite fond of this product, initially I wasn't too pleased with the papaya smell, however it didn't take too long for me to become a huge fan of it. This product acts as a gentle, mild (sensitive skin friendly) peeling gel. I have noticed an immediate difference from my first use of this product, I noticed my skin felt very polished, brighter and much softer than before. I should be using this product once a week since there's not a whole lot of necessity to use it twice a week, though miraculously enough. even with my sensitive skin I'm able to safely use this peel more than once a week. How the peel works is very simple, it comes with a little lock so that the pump cannot be pushed down, remove that and (depending on your preference) pump three times for the product to reach your fingertips. Do make sure your hands are clean and that your nails aren't submerged in dirt, as that is never good for the skin. From there, massage the product around your face, inwards to outwards. As doing so will not only lessen the tug and pull effect which will make your skin lose elasticity and begin early aging, it'll also be very productive in removing the excess of the product. I apply this product to my neck as well, though this is completely optional. I only massage the product for about two minutes or until the product has began to completely dissolve.

Peeling gels could be a staple piece for most who want to rid of their dull skin, dark marks, hyper pigmentation and even post acne marks which is my biggest concern.

There has been a lot of speculations on whether this product is just a "gooey mess, with just the product fooling you because it'll begin to show specks (Dead skin cells) no matter where you use it."

However, after careful testing that I would not recommend anyone to do, I've applied the peel three times on a spot on my arm. Once I reached the third time, there was no cluster of bits (dead skin cells) to appear before my eyes, in fact my skin was actually a bit red and irritated for 30 minutes.

So in response to that claim, I do not believe that is true and truly believe this product removes a fine amount of dead skin cells, a bit of whiteheads, etc.

I cannot however recommend this product for anyone who has eczema, as well have no intention in doing so for the well being of their skin.

I would also be cautious to give this to anyone with cystic acne, as this is not a miracle product, appropriate cleansing, sunscreen application and moisturizer is completely necessary as well.

If you need any advice or recommendations, do feel free to leave a comment on this entry.

Product price: I bought this product for $14.00 with employee discount, $19.00 regular price.

Product testing period: Three weeks, 3-4 times a week for testing period purposes only, though I would only recommend to use this once a week or every two weeks, depending on your skin sensitivity and current condition.

I would personally use this once or twice a week, depending on my preference and the necessity for using it so excessively.

Update 9/25/16: Having used this product for quite some time, I can't say it's the most gentle peeling gel for sure, as there are some occasions it made my skin a bit red and irritated. Also, please note that their are many other peeling gels on the market, as for the time being I've purchased two from my trip in Japan that seem quite promising. However, I will update a review first thing when I thoroughly use them for a few months each.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, PEG-8, Steartrimonium methosulfate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Triethylhexanoin,Acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, Papain, Isopropyl Alcohol, Parfum/Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

Offsetting Ingredients
  • Phenoxyethanol (Preservative) commonly found in a lot of products these days, though I try to avoid in products when possible, often I'll still use the product. For a more detailed analysis, click here. The ingredient is classified as low-moderate in the hazardous zone on the link provided.
Please note: My recommendation of the product is based on the overall effectiveness only, please be mindful of the ingredients and decide whether this is a suitable product for your own use.

Texture: Clear Gel, apply on fingertips and gently massage into the skin.

Gel form, without massaging.

Dead skin cells from massaging the product, magic no?

updated 7/5/17 rate: 2/5

The reason that I lowered the rating is because the ingredients aren't really all that, in terms of how much product (papaya) was put into this peel, there's really just not enough and considering the alcohol in this product. . I wouldn't repurchase.

    1. Hi there,

Yes, in fact, you may use a peeling gel after the use of a scrub. (2x/3x a week max, though I usually stick with 2x a week)

My routine is as follows when cleansing at night:
Cleansing water/Cleansing foam or gel/mask (optional), scrub (I like the Skinfood Strawberry Black Sugar scrub), and finishing with a peeling gel.

Following that cleansing routine, I will use toner>essence>etc.
