[Review] Etude House Big Cover Cushion Concealer Mint SPF30/PA++

Hello everyone,

Today's product review from a brand that I actually haven't had much of an experience with, in fact this is the first official product that I've owned from this Korean brand that's all the rave.

However, truth be told, I used a sample of the Pink Vital Water line from Etude House and was completely in love. If anyone from Etude House is reading this, please send the product over for review, haha.

Ah, really though, I would be unbelievably grateful for anyone any potential sponsors/collaboration partners to contact me.

Introducing. .

☆ Etude House Big Cover Concealer Cushion ☆

Product Description: Cushion Concealer includes a finger cushion puff to cover flaws naturally anytime, anywhere with customized correcting color for complete, flawless skin.

How to apply: 1. Press the back part of the button 1-2 times, apply the side of a finger cushion puff onto the desired area, and rub it in lightly along skin texture to promote absorption.
2. Use the front side of the finger cushion and tap lightly to blend, avoiding the lines.

Personal experience with product: Even I'm quite shocked with the fact this is my first product that I purchased from Etude House. I believe it was after speaking to a close friend of mine and asking what the mint shade was for in makeup, in terms of 'cover up' based cosmetics, to which she quickly replied would reduce redness. At the time, around six months ago, I was having consistent breakouts for no apparent reason despite my semi-acceptable meals throughout the week.

I didn't no where else to turn to at this point, each and every breakout that was appearing and disappearing left a red mark, those nearest the side of my cheeks even created patches of redness, though no where near overwhelming severe.

However, to me, it was the most 'severe' that my breakouts had ever caused my skin to suffer. I was still under the impression that I just didn't want to purchase any makeup based product, it wasn't a thought of a reason, rather it was my instinct as a male who was raised in this country.

I began to further investigate into makeup base cosmetic products, around this time, nearest the end of my sudden breakout rampage, my face was left fatigued and dull from the damage it attempted to withstand.

That's when I had read about Yutakis and Miyake mentioning Etude House, I believe the emphasis here was Miyake who had received products from the Big Cover line by Etude House.

I had also looked further into this product and reading the stellar reviews people were making on YouTube.

I began to look past the mentality of why, "Why would you wear makeup, you're a guy, wouldn't others notice?" etc.

I'm not sure why I had the thought, though from the start I knew that I was always fine with other males wearing it. In this case, I particularity thought about whether it was fine to wear makeup myself or if it was even of the "norm" in a sense.

I regret even having the thought at all, I eventually purchased the product and was pleasantly surprised.

I applied the product as a last step in my skincare, after apply sunscreen, I push the button on the bottom and gently tap on the areas that I wish to conceal the redness from.

In my experience, I generally tap around the area more for more coverage, particularly on both sides of my cheek. With my index finger, I'll tap the area and the product blends into my skin without any hassle.

This product can easily make the difference in those with post acne marks (such as myself) who wish to cover up the redness, in my experience, any makeup based products in a mint shade don't provide a dramatic coverage/full coverage. Rather, as stated in the product description, it just reduces the redness on the skin.

Personally, for the most part, I've never had anyone realize that I was wearing makeup (as of recently, though in particular days) as I find myself avoiding it altogether. Not because it's makeup, rather there's days I'm quite confident with my skin and choose to further embrace it, as well the fact my skin has been getting much better with each passing day.

I love the fact this product is very lightweight and very much a convenient product, with an ease of access, this product is perfect for anyone on the go. I am actually going to Japan at the end of July and will be bringing this product with me because it's so compact and useful.

Offsetting Ingredients:

  • Phenoxyethanol (Preservative) commonly found in a lot of products these days, though I try to avoid in products when possible, often I'll still use the product. For a more detailed analysis, click here. The ingredient is classified as low-moderate in the hazardous zone on the link provided.
  • Titanium Dioxide is an inorganic compound used in a range of body care products such as sunscreens and makeup. It appears to have low skin penetration but inhalation is a concern, it's a low-moderate in overall hazard, however moderate under 'cancer' under the health ingredient. For a more detailed analysis, click here
Please note: My recommendation of the product is based on the overall effectiveness only, please be mindful of the ingredients and decide whether this is a suitable product for your own use.

Texture: Cushion, fairly moist (mint) applicator.
Click on the photo to further zoom in, this is what the actual cushion in the product appears as. I did in fact push the back button so that the product could be showed. If you look closely enough, you can see the mint, very clearly.

Recommend? Yes, 3.25/5.

update, 1/30/16: This product doesn't seem to last more than few hours without breaking apart, leaving a dry patch on the areas applied. . though, still convenient for traveling.
